University: Southampton Solent University

Kathryn layers our Monochrome Triangle print

How did you first hear about Motel?:  I heard about Motel a few years ago, I can’t remember how, but I then had the opportunity to have a better look at the stock at the Clothes Show Live, at Birmingham’s NEC.

Why did you choose to apply to become a Student Ambassador?: I chose to apply for the Student Ambassador scheme as I was starting at University studying fashion journalism.  I’d promised myself I was going to grab every opportunity I could as they highly encourage us to get work experience and get ourselves out there: I thought this would be a great chance! I’ve also always loved Motel as a brand, as they’re very customer orientated so was interested in getting to know the brand better.

What do you hope to do after graduating?: As I’m only a first year, I’m not exactly sure what I want to do when I graduate, but I’m hoping to get into the media industry. I’m quite interested in working at a magazine, possibly writing or styling, something like that. Failing that, I’m aslso interested in retail so would love to work for a brand of some sort.

What is your favourite Motel piece in your wardrobe?: My favourite pieces of Motel in my wardrobe are my Laureen Shift Dress in the black and white city scene print and the Molly Scoop Back Vest in Monochrome Triangle, as they’re easy to dress up or down.

How would you describe your personal style?: I can’t really think of a word to describe to my personal style.  I tend to just buy things I like, whether they’re ‘on trend’ or not, but I’m definitely not opposed to following a trend if it’s something that I like/suits me. I guess I tend to dress smart casual, I’m never too casual or too plain.

Motel Style Icon: Glenda Bailey

January 11th, 2010 — 10:57am

Motel Student Ambassador Kathryn from Southampton Solent University tells us about her style icon.

Glenda Bailey is a fashion icon, but not for her image. As the editor in chief of Harper’s Bazaar, and a past editor of Marie Claire, you expect her to be a head to toe trendsetter, unfortunately this has never been the case. She’s a perfectionist when it comes to the job, but just doesn’t fit the image bill. As a person, I love her style: she’s independent, powerful and has worked her way into the one of the most sought after jobs in the fashion media industry; why wouldn’t you admire her?

I imagine Glenda wearing a combination of Motel’s Evelyn Peg Leg Trouser in Wine paired with the Motel Laurel Tartan Chiffon Shirt in Grey Check. It’s stylish, and can take you from the office to the bar with the swift addition of some heels. It isn’t too far from something Glenda would be seen wearing, but with a dash of colour and a pinch of pattern it takes her straight into the 21st Century. The dusky wine of the trousers helps the otherwise dull base colour of the shirt to pop. Roll the sleeves up, open the top few buttons and add a brightly coloured belt to keep it sexy and versatile. These pieces are easily worn together or apart, and will fit perfectly into your Winter wardrobe.
