It’s time to dig out the copies (or borrow mum’s) of John Hughes’ classic films like The Breakfast Club and Sixteen Candles as The Carrie Diaries is bringing back the 80’s teen fashion! Girls before us may have lusted over the wardrobe of Molly Ringwald but now we have a new fashion icon in the form of the young Carrie Bradshaw, played by Anna Sophia Robb. We have all probably drooled over Carrie Bradshaw’s mix of designer and vintage clothes, plus her array of Manolo Blahniks, whilst watching re-runs of Sex and The City, but with The Carrie Diaries stepping on to the scene it means that Carrie’s fashion is more accessible than ever.

In an interview with the costume designer Eric Daman (who has previously worked on Gossip Girl, what a CV he must have) he says that for Carrie’s look he has been ‘working with classic 80′s colours and prints, but in more slimming shapes and silhouettes—not giant shoulder pads and oversized bulk’. So you can relax as shoulder pads don’t look set to make a comeback and Motel has slimming shapes and silhouettes covered with our multitude of dresses for SS13! Leather-look skirts like the Flute Skirt are a nod to her flippy, flirty style.

In the pilot episode of the new series we get to see Carrie flit around New York City on an internship in a flurry of sequins, mesh and bright colours. The series gives us the chance to see the younger side to her in which she is finding her fashion feet and dealing with changing friendships and relationships. Lucky for you we adore her youthful style and so have sequins, mesh and monochrome all at your fingertips at MotelRocks.com. The Fairy Dress can be dressed down with a bright jacket, but still show your fashion fun too.

If you’re a fan of the original series then we are sure you’ll love a chance to see new Carrie adventures. Even though they may be minus Charlotte, Samantha and Miranda, young Carrie has another group of friends that bring plenty of drama. If you never caught the Sex and The City addiction however then we can promise you the best of 80’s fashion and music, plus lots of screen time for Austin Butler from the new series! Sequins are the signature must-have for the 80′s and the Gabby Dress brings them straight into this century.

Anna Sophia is much more current with her love of SS13′s biggest trend, monochrome! Get her look with the Hannah Shift Dress and add a signature bowler hat.

It’s New York Fashion Week so at Motel we’ve put together our own guide to show you the best restaurants, bars and shops! If you are off to New York, these places are where you need to be headed! Remember our USA customers get free shipping right now too!
One of our favourite restaurants in New York is Bar Boulud on Broadway, right next to the Lincoln centre so perfect for anyone at NYFW! It’s a casual bistro so will be great for anyone looking for something spectacular to eat but not breaking the bank!

With all the gorgeous clothes coming down the catwalk, it’s definitely going to give you the urge for a bit of shopping! One of our favourite areas in New York is Soho and if you head to Broadway, Broome Street and Spring Street, you’ll find a mixture of high street stores and independent boutiques.

And for cocktails and nibbles, head to the beautiful rooftop bar at the Metropolitan Museum of Art! We love the views and the Martinis, sampling culture and fun under the sculptures.

We’re looking forward to the big names, the strictly cab-to-curb heels and fashion that would only look in place on the Upper-East side. Emulate New York style with the 2012 staple – printed trousers (our Jodie’s in Cottage Print are perfect). Pair with smart tailoring, sports luxe accessories and the slickest blowdry of your life!
