Recently Tumblr has been generating several trends and one of our favourites has to ‘Indie India’. Influenced by spirituality and 90′s rave culture, this trend mixes grunge and boho and hails mid 90′s Gwen Stefani as the ultimate style icon. Think bindis, dip dye hair, henna hand tattoos and elephant motifs. This trend is all about mixing it up and throwing it together, crossing eclectic eastern iconography and prints, with western urban street style. Wear gold jewellery with a vintage embroidered jacket, and leopard leggings. Not sure you can do it? It is official – the 90′s are back and we could not be more excited! After the Spice Girls performance at the Olympic Closing Ceremony we couldn’t stop thinking about our favourite decade and how it is influencing the major trends for next season! Hello, I’m Alice from One Nail To Rule Them All and today I’m going to show you how to create this dip dye look, inspired by Motel’s Dip Dye Collection!

You will need:

Acetone, cotton buds, paintbrush, cosmetic sponge, 2 blue nail varnishes, 1 white nail varnish

Firstly paint your nails white:

Then, colour the sponge in with the 2 blues and the white, allowing the colours to slightly overlap will increase the gradient effect, like so:

Dab any excess off onto a piece of paper and then sponge this onto your nail, it will end up looking quite messy but that’s okay as you will be able to clean it up later, continue to reapply nail varnish to the sponge and then dab it onto your nail until your whole hand is complete, it should end up looking similar to this:

Apply a topcoat whilst the design is still tacky, this will help blend the colours together. When dry, dip the cotton buds into the acetone and clean up the skin around your nails, then dip the paintbrush into the acetone and clean around the outside of your nail to give a smooth line. You should end up with something like this:
