We Love Tights!

October 18th, 2010 — 5:02pm

We are loving tights today. With winter firmly setting in its time to think stylish ways to wear your leather shorts or ditsy dresses. Hot your look up with stripped tights which are ultra slimming for your pins giving you endless length. Or try some grunge inspired pre ripped look tights from Henry Holland that give you a the right edge with lots of leather. So forget bare legs this winter its time to get sophistication with tights!

Grab Your Grandad’s Cardi!

October 15th, 2010 — 5:24pm

Your Grandad is not the most likely of people to get style tips off but catwalks to celebs are following in their footsteps and reaching for this comfortable, cosy knitwear. In a new twist this winter Granddad style cardi’s are the most desirable of pieces that serve instead of a jacket. Alexa Chung is serving as our cardi pin up teaming them with stocking and leather shorts, hot. Thats one look your granddad certainly wont be sporting! At Motel Vintage we have some fabulous one off Vintage cardigans arriving next week so be quick there’s only one.  Work over a chiffon dress and thin leather belt or under a one of our gorgeous body-con to inject some femininity into your look.

Hey Laura, your’re our favourite!

October 8th, 2010 — 4:47pm

So we are winding down for the weekend and we have found this little gem. Her name is Laura or know as Hey Laura as her artists name. This underground vixen has a lot going for her, her down town vintage dress sense that is oozing with London coolness and her melodic voice, this combined makes her one to watch. She released her EP last year after a tour of the states finishing in LA where she soaked up the festival atmosphere to work on her upcoming album. Be inspired by her vintage style and have a peek at our Motel Vintage range and be all vintage goddess with a cute ditsey floral dress or sharpen up with our new Boyfriend Shirts!

Fringe Fest

October 6th, 2010 — 5:34pm

Mark Fast is sending ripples through the fashion world with his fringe driven S/S/ 11 collection. It may not be revolutionary using fringe but it is the use of innovative fabrics with daring cuts which creates his signature style.

The extravagant fringe is made from horsehair and he combines this with more than a few crystals–provided by Swarovski, natch–and a bit of patent leather thrown in for good measure. We just adore his cut away dresses which sculpt the body with fringe paradise along the bottom are so desirable. Try our Erica or Lesley teamed with sky scrapping heels for a similar effect.

FASHION WEEK

September 22nd, 2010 — 5:12pm

Yesterday Motel was whisked off to cover London Fashion Week for the Motel blog. We knew upon arrival we had the right venue for Vauxhall Fashion Scout due to the enormous amount of fashionista’s hovering around the entrance.  We were met by our friend Lara who is there covering the catwalk shows for another blog and who managed to get me into two hotly sought after catwalk shows.

The first show was the BA Fashion students from the Swedish School of Textiles whom for the first time in LFW history showcased their graduate collections on the Vauxhall Fashion Scout runway. Each collection unique but all contained the signature Swedish look of disciplined tailoring.

The next show was set in the backdrop of a beautiful Art Deco hall for Hermione De Paula.  Her signature soft and feminine style to create the delicate flower-print. She showcased her new collection ‘Flora’s Illuminate’, which included her anticipated silky touch with a new tougher bite. We managed to pick up one of Hermione’s beautiful fans complete with her signature floral fantasy design.

In The Mood

September 20th, 2010 — 4:24pm

We taken a trip down memory lane to all things 90′s related from our childhood so whether its velvet necklaces or mood rings that used to make you go wild we are found a pick of the best ones!

We can all remember the excitement of buying new shoes as a child but the ones which everybody always wanted were the magic lock and key shoes from Clarks. Have a peek at this advert why don’t they make shoes like this any more?

Mood changing objects always fascinate children. Mood rings were massive but things have moved on since then and now we have colour changing nail polish that changes with your moods!

Fashion’s Big Night Out

September 11th, 2010 — 2:00pm

Last night was certainly a long awaited date in the diary for it was Fashion’s Night Out 2010 in central London. It promised to be as hugely successful as last year with London’s favourite designers, models and fashionable people in town to mingle with the shoppers and help you find just what you’re looking for in capital’s best shopping location. One of our lovely Street Teamer’s (Sophia Darell) was reporting for us for all the action on the night.

Yesterday evening I travelled to Central London (sparkling in a vintage Motel day dress and heels)- ready to hit Vogue’s Fashion Night Out on London’s Oxford Street, it celebrates all that’s fashionable and stylish, with makeovers at House of Fraser and Selfridges, manicures and cocktails at River Island, 15% off at American Apparel, and appearances from stars such as Manolo Blahnik, Yasmin Le Bon, Daisy Lowe and Peter Pilotto- and much more! And, of course, no event would be complete without the rows of new-season Motel on show seen at House of Fraser and Topshop.

I can’t believe BIBA is back- so iconic in the sixties, it’s a perfect fusion of bohemian style, funky colours  and retro celebration! Daisy Lowe had it spot- on as she rummaged through the treasure trove of wild leopard print, vintage patterns and feathers, chatting about the sketches she’d been doing.

This fashion extravaganza was hugely successful, I look forward to next years event, so pencil it in the diaries now!

Style Inspiration Mark Ronson!

August 13th, 2010 — 12:37pm

Mark Ronson’s new hair cut has certainly been making waves in the news today with his new platinum barnet. We all know he loves a bit of Twitter action but getting a video done documenting the whole procedure is a bit excessive even by celebs standards (see the video below!). But we do think it has a striking resemblance to our Jenna’s haircut? Mark have you had some style inspiration from somewhere?

Tell us what you think?

Shop Girl to Stylist

July 23rd, 2010 — 3:49pm

Love The Hill’s? Project Run way? We are keen followers of both at the Motel office, well you need something to fill up your Sunday afternoons with don’t you! Anyway Elle’s latest competition premise was similar to these programmes, it consisted of scouting the nation’s retail talent to expose its hidden talent for a prize of all prizes, an opportunity to style a fashion shoot for Elle, a six month internship and mentoring from fashion director Anne-Marie Curtis.  Of course the competition was fierce but  they finally managed to whittle it down to 25 fashionista finalists who all displayed their work in front of an intimidating panel of judges, featuring editors from Elle and fashion blogger sensation Susie Bubble. The next 10 finalists will be announced shortly. The pressure is on now so good luck to you all!

To check out the lastest check out the Elle website .
