Here at the Motel office, we were recently visited by Jenny who is designer and owner of Nylon Sky and when she showed us her new collection of necklaces ‘Rough: Luxe’ we instantly fell in love!
We decided that we would get some of these wonderful treats for our flagship store in Bristol and we were all really excited when Jenny dropped them off yesterday!
We got the necklaces in four different designs, each coming in two colourways. Rough: Luxe is a geometric / futuristic fusion of laser cut acrylic and wood. We think they are of similar style to designer Holly Fulton! Some necklaces come on a black or silver chain and some are bound by leather and attached to a black rope style cord and range from £15 – £24 !
Either way, we are loving all of Jenny’s creations and we think you will too! Take a peak and and watch this space!!

Ok… so we all know that horrible feeling when something terrible happens to that brand new dress you just got!! Whether it was a coffee stain, a rip, or the worst, you’ve sat in gum!!
Well don’t worry… it even happens to us too here, in the Bristol Motel store!! Look what’s happened when our lovely warehouse man got a little bit too excited with his scissors….
So we came up with a few ideas on how to turn a fashion faux pas into a fashion fix!!
So here’s what our lovely dress should have looked like…
And here’s what we did after our strap had been cut into…
First we cut a diagonal neckline to remove the broken strap and neatened up the edges to prevent the dress from fraying, we then used the off cuts to create a bow on the left shoulder strap.
We then decided to take out two sides pieces, by holding the dress as you would wear it and cutting out two half circles to create the effect we have, again tidying up the edges to prevent fraying:
We then also twisted the bottom half of the dress to create an even more daring piece!
If you’re still not satisfied you could take it even further into this cute little 80’s crop top. Then using any leftover off cuts you can create all these lovely accessories!!
So go on… Get creative with all your old clothes and new Motel garments!! We’d love to see anything that you come up with
Just before Christmas our Motel store in Bristol let the cast and crew of Skins in for the day to record part of their penultimate episode on Katie and Emily, the twins.
“It’s the college prom. Katie is humilated and wants Freddie to pay, but she’ll also do whatever it takes to stop Emily and Naomi living happily ever after. Twin showdown = double the fun (and twice as mean.)” – Taken from the E4 website
If you’ve been watching Skins from the start you may of caught a glimpse of the shop in the first episode when Freddie skates down Park Street and does a nifty little trick over a skip right in front of the store… if you missed it you can see the image below!
Skins just couldn’t get enough of our wonderful store and so they then recorded a whole scene inside! In this episode the two twins are in the store looking for their ‘Love Ball’ Dresses, when they bump into Freddie and JJ.. If you’ve been watching skins and know the drama you’ll understand why things get a little heated!
The episode is being played this Thursday the 19th March but, if you just can’t wait, then have a look at this clip of the guys talking in the shop!
