1. The Welcome Party

Hi everyone! It’s true you only get one chance to make a first impression – so make it a good one! Make sure you turn heads in something sexy but not over the top like the Motel Gina Dress in Red and Black. The beautiful lace detail will balance out your figure and the long sleeves compliment the short hemline so you don’t end up revealing too much. Red isn’t your colour?  Don’t fret! The Gina Dress comes in a variety of different colours for you to choose from. Team with heels but make sure you can walk in them – no one wants to fall flat on their face on the first night.

2. The Fancy Dress Party

Originality is key! Show just how creative you can be by spinning a twist on a classic theme. If the theme is school disco think outside of the schoolgirl cliché – maybe a sexy teacher or librarian, or even the class geek! You don’t have to spend loads of money on your costume – unleash the imagination within you and remember all those valuable tips you learnt while watching Art Attack. Old clothes, bed sheets, even household items can all be used in the making of your outfit. If you do choose to spend on your outfit, make sure you keep it minimal as you are sure to come across loads of different themes throughout the year.

3. The Gig

Cool new music artists and bands always visit universities to promote their music – yay for us! The tickets are usually really reasonable and you will get to discover loads of up and coming bands before anyone else. For this you need to keep the look casual, but don’t forget to put the effort in – just in case the hot guitarist looks your way. For this maybe wear the super flattering Becka Skirt which comes in block colour, pattern and stripes; so take your pick! Team this with a stand out top like the new Tilly Crop Tee which comes in eye and lip prints. These are sure to help you stand out from the crowd! With this outfit you won’t get too hot and sweaty while dancing your little socks off either, but don’t forget to take a cardigan for the queue.

4. The Halls Party

Tonight you have the advantage of being able to nip back to you room so not worries of an outfit malfunction! Look cute in a cropped tee like the Tilly with a bodycon skirt and dress down with flats. You won’t look overdressed for your own new home but you’ll look super hot for your fit neighbour! Leave the heels and stand out subtly with a bright lip or statement necklace to spark conversations. Don’t forget to compliment everyone else too!

5. The Super Club

It’s the fanciest and most popular club in town so looking fantastic is a must! The Renee Cage Back Dress in Purple Polka Dot has a super cute sweetheart neckline with a caged back edge! Perfect for keeping it pretty but also looking uber sexy! Team with killer black heels and a black chain bag for a knock out look.

6. The Course Social

Social secretaries absolutely LOVE themes! SO be prepared for some fancy dress nights throughout the year. However firstly, you need to make a good impression with your academic peers. You want to be the girl they love to love, not the girl they love to hate. This is a tricky situation indeed – why not try the figure flattering Emma Dress which comes in loads of colours to suit every girl; this is sure to let people know you have style. With a super sexy dress like this you should tone the rest of your outfit down, maybe put on a pair of sheer tights or even wear a cute little cardigan over your shoulders to tone the look down and make an intelligent impression.

7. A night at the SU

The SU is the ultimate place for casual drinks, but with all the uni fitties around you still need to look good. Go for a flattering jean like the Lee Pencil Leg for laid back cool and team it with an interesting, eye catching top like the Olivia Tee which comes in morocco or face print – both styles provide good talking points and shows that you have unique style.

September 28th, 2011 — 11:47am

Welcome to student month at Motel Rocks! We have loads of fashionable and useful things for you to see, and the Motel student fashion intern Becky has shared some fabulous tips below to keep you stylish and excess debt free over your university time. Check out Part 1 HERE and remember to like us on Facebook to get your 20% off code for Motel Rocks – happy shopping!

1. Envy is the deadliest sin

As hard as it may be, don’t let yourself covet what other people have. Individuality is the key to looking good! Learn to appreciate what you have; it must have been amazing for you to have bought it in the first place! Play around with your wardrobe, mix and match older pieces to create new and interesting outfits – it will surprise you how good your wardrobe already is!

2. The LBD

Every girl knows that you can’t go wrong with a classic little black dress. It’s that one timeless garment that you can put on whenever and wherever and still look amazing. Luckily, Motel Rocks has a multitude of gorgeous LBD’s to tickle your fancy! If you’re looking for sexy and sophisticated why not try our sleeveless lace Lexie Dress, or for a classic look try our Adelina dress which is simple but stunning. If you fancy a little something different from your LBD why not try the Rebecca dress which adds a different texture and a hint of colour to the look.

3. A friend in need…

… is a friend indeed! Girls, this is the time to be a Good Samaritan and help your friends out. You can mix and match each other’s wardrobes and accessories to create different looks without having to splash the cash. SHARE is a key word in a stylish student’s vocabulary. Also when your friend asks you if she looks good in something, tell her the truth. Now is not the time to be polite, think of her bank balance. Although do try to be gentle!

4. The ultimate party dress

Every girl wants that certain WOW factor in their outfit for a night out. This is the one occasion where it’s acceptable to go all out and be sure to turn heads. From bright colours to quirky details, your party dress needs to separate you from the crowd and make sure all eyes are on you. Fortunately, Motel Rocks is THE place to get your party dress this season! The sell-out Gypsy Playsuit comes in a range of beautiful colours and is sure to flatter your figure and make you feel like a supermodel. The elegant lace in the classic Gina Dress balances out your figure to make you feel a million dollars and the caged back detail on the Renee Dress gives a quirky twist to the bodycon trend.

5. Don’t kid yourself

Refrain from indulging in pointless and insincere spending. It’s very easy to convince yourself that a student loan is real life monopoly money ready for you to use on whatever your heart desires. Unfortunately this is not the case. Always remember, impulsive spending is not your friend. Think about what you are buying, how much do you really need it? How much do you really want it? How many times will you wear it? Do you have items that will look good with it? Your money is very precious, and should only be spent on something you REALLY want.

6. The perks of being a student

DISCOUNTS!!! So many companies now offer discount exclusively to us lucky students. Keep an eye out for local discount evenings and fashion events which will offer amazing discounts off your favourite brands. Often if you keep your ear to the ground and wait patiently you can double your discount and find some major bargains! Right now at Motel its student month! All students can save 20% on their purchases by liking the Motel Rocks Facebook page and collecting the exclusive discount code!

The Survival Guide to Being a Fashion Obsessed Student: Part 1

September 27th, 2011 — 3:15pm

Motel Rocks Facebook Student Discount

It’s student month at Motel Rocks and we have loads of fashionable and useful things lined up! The Motel student fashion intern Becky has shared some fabulous tips below to keep you stylish and debt free over your university time. Remember to like us on Facebook to get your 20% off code for Motel Rocks – happy shopping!

The Survival Guide to Being a Fashion Obsessed Student

1. It’s your time to experiment!

University is a time for experimentation in all aspects of your life – including fashion! There is so much room for diversity that you can really wear and be whoever you want to! Personal style should evolve as you do as a person so go all out, now is your time to try anything! Remember that fashion is all about having fun with your clothes, and they don’t need to have a hefty price tag or a posh label to look amazing!

2. Key comfortables

So, you finally wake up the morning after a night on the tiles after pressing the snooze button on your alarm at least three times, of course you don’t exactly have the time to make yourself look immaculate. The solution to this dilemma is to make sure you have a few stylish and comfortable pieces to throw on for early morning lectures. The fabulously flattering Laureen Dress is perfect for covering up in style, as well as the cute and casual Olivia Tee, and Voila! Utter gorgeousness without the morning fuss.

3. Fashion budgeting

Set yourself a monthly fashion budget. The amount of this budget needs to be seriously considered, don’t murder your bank balance – it’s your lifeline! Plan out your expenditure; consider food, travel, books, rent, and the price of social activities – then you will know how much you can really afford to spend on your outfits. Trust me; living off supermarket tinned beans is not an ideal way of living!

4. Become a savvy spender

The easiest way to become a more sensible spender is to break your spending down into categories. It’s so easy to throw your money away on following new trends but it’s the classic basics that will carry you stylishly through the years. You should aim to spend about 15% of your clothing budget on current trends – this way you can update your old outfits and make use of your entire wardrobe. 35% of your budget can be spent on eccentricities – your favourite shop, that lively little vintage boutique – just make sure you don’t go mad. 50% of your budget should be spent on wardrobe staples; these are the things you will end up wearing over and over again. These items you can mix and match with other items in your wardrobe to update any look – such as a pair of denim shorts that can be work with a number of different tops – this way you can be sure to maximise the utility of your wardrobe!

5. Have your day of rest

Save yourself one day a week where you don’t spend a penny. This will allow you to assert control over your own spending habits and remind yourself that spending very little is far more easily done than you might think.

6. You’re allowed to cheat!

Don’t commit yourself to store cards or credit cards – they are the devil in disguise! Be wary of sales assistants peddling all the wondrous perks and discounts of store cards. It’s their job to do so and they fail to inform you about the dangers of these seemingly heaven sent pieces of plastic.  Never forget that shops want far more from you than they will ever want to give you. You may not have to pay upfront but you will inevitably end up paying so much more in the end. They will never love you as much as you love them!

Stay tuned for part 2 soon…
