Festival Babes: Street Style at CREAMFIELDS 2011!

August 30th, 2011 — 11:28am

Our latest festival blogger Rebecca headed to Creamfields this weekend and snapped some SUPER stylish festival goers! Here’s her account of all the festival fun; even with the rain the atmosphere sounds incredible!…

“The excitement of Creamfields had all ready began on the Friday morning. Travelling down to the festival with four girls in a Mini was a bit of a push but we made it and arrived at the Festival around 3 o’clock. Staying in hospitality, we didn’t have the hassle of waiting in queues which was a great start to the weekend.

After getting our wristband which was access all areas we headed into the main arena. The Friday night consisted of a few warm up DJs to get the weekend started off. Around 6pm the heavens opened and the rain came down but that didn’t stop the enthusiasm of the festival goers. Ponchos were out and umbrellas were up and the weekend was ready to get started. We ended up at the Silent Disco tent which was the first silent disco Creamfields had put on and it was fantastic. 1,000s of people gathered in one tent to rave, we then went on a few fair rides and headed back to camp to get some sleep for the rest of the weekend.

Saturday morning and we were up and out by 11am so we could get the most out of the weekend. As we were heading to the arena we got to meet Mr Creamfields himself, James Barton. Looking round the rain hadn’t put anyone off with their choice of clothing. Shorts were a big hit of the weekend from vintage denims, floral highwaisted, and highwaisted shiny hot pants. Hats and head scarves were a popular accessory from the girl’s trilbies, straw hats and bowler hats.

We spent most of the day at the South Stage which had Skrillex, Katy B, Magnetic Man and Chemical Brothers. Katy B came on wearing skinny mint green jeans and a graphic tee which allowed her to move round the stage and get the crowd going. Unfortunately when she first came on they had a technical problem but once it was fixed she was amazing, interacting with the crowd and talking about how she loved the festival atmosphere, saying “how for the weekend or for a certain song the whole crowd comes together as one and everyone is at the same level dancing and singing with strangers who they have never seen before and will ever see again”, which I think is totally true. She ended her set with “Lights on” the crowd was definitely still dancing after she left the stage.

Magnetic Man was insane and had they crowd jumping and dancing round the field. But the highlight of the night was definitely Chemical Brothers from watching them perform at Glastonbury on the television to actually being in the crowd definitely lived up to expectations. We then walked over to the Paul Van Dyk stage whose performance was incredible as well.

Sunday morning arrived and everyone was a little tired but ready to get the day started – a cup of tea and croissant at hand and we were off. The rain from the night before had caused the whole field to turn into muddy swamp and walking to the arena without falling over or getting stuck was a struggle but we made it. There were a few unlucky people who did fall. Some festival goers however didn’t anticipate how bad the mud was and turned up in pumps and I did see a few flip flops, talking to a few people at the shops they had been queuing for an hour waiting to buy wellies.

Floral dresses and tassels were a popular choice of the day and I did see a lot of customised wellies with flowers and chains. Because of the rain a lot of girls choose to keep warm with detailed tights.

Afrojack, with a bottle of Grey Goose at hand, had the crowd jumping. He also collaborated with Shermanolgy. They got the crowd singing with Roby S Show Me Love, however we had to leave his set early so we could get into the Swedish House Mafia tent. You could feel the rush of energy as soon as they stepped on the stage. Their remix of Coldplays Fix You sent goose pimples through everyone in the crowd it was a truly magical moment. They told everyone one to sit on the floor even though the floor was incredibly muddy: the whole of the tent and everyone outside got on the floor as they played Daft Punks One More Time. I have never seen anything like it, flares were being lit in the crowd, streamers and glitter was coming down from the ceiling – the best set I have seen. They ended the weekend on a high.

Even with the rain and mud it was truly an amazing three days!

Festival Babes: Trends, Fashion and Gossip at V FESTIVAL!

August 24th, 2011 — 11:58am

Scores of girls party away at festivals in their Motel favourites and always tell us how they danced right at the front in their Gypsy Playsuits and Tilly Tees! We have recruited some lucky ladies who are attending the hottest festivals this year, to dish the gossip on the fashion, music and campsite raves. Jodie attended V Festival at the weekend and here is her amazing account…

“Although V Festival did face me with many challenges – tripping over tent wires in wellies, smelly toilets and the occasional cup of beer being thrown amongst the sweaty crowd -it was easily the most fun I’ve ever had in the space of three days!

Friday started off in 5 hours of traffic but I saw the sunshine as a good sign of the weekend ahead. Once ready we went and looked at the ‘sights’ and it was clear that festival fever had started to take over as people skipped and danced around the fair rides, cans of cider in hand. The choice of clothing was already clear, ‘Hunter’ wellingtons being a particular favourite by many and anything Aztec or floral.

I started Saturday off by watching The Noistettes, Shingai Shoniwa looked beautiful in jewel tones of red and gold and sung with emotion as she spoke of her late sister. The Wanted were followed by a screaming bunch of fans; as you can imagine The Arena tent was full. Eliza Doolittle followed, who also looked amazing wearing what can only be described as a silk swimming costume, fishnets and her trademark trainers.

The highlights of the day were obviously Rihanna and Eminem, Rihanna oozed sex appeal in the shortest denim shorts, teamed with a Union Jack crop top (the patriotism was appreciated)! She put on an amazing performance and was definitely a crowd pleaser. Eminem was the best part of the weekend – minus the constant unneeded use of a four letter word beginning with ‘f’ – it was amazing to see such a huge crowd bouncing in time with one another and screaming the lyrics to his well-known songs and joining in with the chants of ‘Shady’. I must admit for a minute I did feel like I was in ‘8 Mile’! His performance was made even better when Rihanna joined him on stage and they performed ‘Love the Way You Lie’ – I have never heard applause like it.

On Sunday I spent most of the day at the 4 Music stage as it had the most amazing line up, but before this just to add a bit of class to the event my friend and I brought some oysters from the ‘Gourmet Garden’ – the best place to eat, if you didn’t want greasy burgers and chips. Olly Murrs was the first act I saw, who looked genuinely excited to be in front of such a large crowd and definitely made his mark with a tribute to Madness (which flaunted those famous hip thrusts) and a surprise visit from Rizzle Kicks. I had been warned through text that Examples performance was going to be insane and I wasn’t let down as he told the crowd to act like ‘lunatics’, which they did!

Jessie J was absolutely perfect and really connected with the audience and even though she was sitting down in a plaster cast she had the presence to make you forget she wasn’t moving – her outfit was amazing and I loved her fashionable slicked back pony tail with futuristic inspired makeup.

Tinie Tempah was hilarious as he admitted he was drunk and that he’d been told he was allowed to swear so was taking full advantage! He invited members of the crowd onstage and was also joined by Jessie J and Dynamo – the magician! As Plan B is a favourite of mine I really looked forward to his performance and he pulled in a huge crowd and collaborated with Faith SFX the beatboxer, who was amazing! During Arctic Monkeys , who looked gorgeous sporting new hairstyles and what seemed like a new wardrobe, I had to make a quick toilet break, which lead me on to dancing to Dizzee Rascal and actually meeting Faith SFX !

The weekend was perfect and I’m already planning on buying my ticket for next year!!”

Gem Fatale Fashion Blogger Shop: Gem’s Top Tips!

August 18th, 2011 — 11:12am

Awesome fashion blogger Gem of Gem Fatale has picked out her top Motel pieces for her very own Motel Rocks Blog Shop! Click to view the items with her stamp of approval, inspired by retro, vintage styles with a punky edge. Gem keeps it super pretty though with pop colour nail polish and gorgeous prints! We quizzed her on her best style and fashion blogging tips below…

Motel Rocks Gem Fatale Fashion Blog Shop

Hi Gem! We are addicted to your fashion blog and love the pieces in your blog shop! How does it feel to have your own shop for Motel Rocks?

It feels a bit surreal as Motel are one of my favourite brands, so I am chuffed to be involved! It’s been so fun choosing all of my favourite pieces, and I’ve learnt a lot about my own style during the selection process.

Can you describe your style?

Retro and girly with a rocky edge and always comfortable. Life’s too short to be sucking your tummy in until you get cramp, so loose fitting or A-line dresses are my favourites for flattering my self-inflicted lumps and bumps (damn you, Krispy Kreme!).

What type of posts do you love to create for Gem Fatale?

My regular Tuesday Tips posts always go down well with the readers, and it’s so satisfying to feel like I’ve shared a tip that has inspired someone else. I am getting more into video posts at the moment, too.

How have readers responded to your Motel shop?

The response has been fab. I think it makes the shopping process easier, to see the key pieces chosen by someone who has similar tastes to you.  I think my shop selections may have also shown people that there is so much more to Motel than bodycon mini dresses!

What is your favourite item in your curated shop?

I am a sucker for the black Celeste Dress. I love wearing it buttoned up to the neck with a little necklace under the collar for a girly look, or toughening it up with desert boots.

What would you wear for a night out?

I think the Carrine Snow Leopard Print Dress is ideal for a night out. The flippy skirt is cute and flattering, whilst the leopard print adds some attitude. Perfect!

We LOVE your fabulous nail art, do you have a favourite Model’s Own polish?

Top Turquoise is one of my all time favourite polishes. It’s opaque in just one coat and dries so quickly. Gorgeous!

Have you been to any festivals this year?

I went to the Vintage Festival at The South Bank Centre a couple of weeks ago. There were loads of vintage stalls to browse and also dance floors filled with amazing swing dancers. Everyone had their best retro outfits on and looked fantastic, and as an added bonus, I bumped into one of my favourite designers, Betsey Johnson!

What’s in store for the future on Gem Fatale?

Well I’ve just graduated from university (studying Fashion Promotion at UCA) so hopefully I’ll find a job and have more money to fund nice outfits to share with my readers! I have just moved to a bigger house too which is in need of a style overhaul, so I’m sure there’ll be some Tuesday Tips for the home coming up!

Quick Fire Round:

Leopard print or polka dots? I love a good polka dot, but leopard print is my religion!
Florals or stripes? Stripes – why do they make every outfit look that bit cooler?
Bodycon or flared? Flared and flattering any day!
Cropped tee or loose vest? Loose vest.
LBD or block colours? Neither – prints all the way! But if I HAD to choose – LBD.
Colourful nails or crazy patterns? A bit of both! A bright base colour with some leopard print on top.
Cute flats or killer heels? Flats all the way – I can only handle heels for a couple of hours until I’m a hobbling wreck. NOT a glam look.
Jeans or leggings? Leggings or jeggings for me. Jeans lack the comfy factor.
