Here is another city guide from our Student Ambassador Kathryn studying in Southampton! She has created a snapshop guide to the stylish city…
“Southampton is a location that’s often overlooked and underestimated, but as a student fuelled city it couldn’t be more exciting. From two shopping centre’s to over 200 food outlets, it has more than you could ever want, or need!

Southampton Market (Above Bar Street/Bargate High Street)
Every Saturday comes the market along the high street, where you can buy everything from your fruits and veg to discounted make up, which for a student can come in very handy! The atmosphere is bustling and busy and gives you a real peek into local Southampton life. With candyfloss and dinky doughnut vans gracing the street too, you have the perfect shopping break snack to boost those sugar levels before you carry on! We also have our very own international foods market that comes with the usual stalls every so often, where you can try out everything from jerk chicken to curried fruit!

West Quay (Above Bar Street Entrance)
West Quay Shopping Centre contains everything from New Look to Hollister, and beyond, even housing a food court, you have everything you need under one roof. With events almost every month, there’s more than enough to keep you occupied and plenty of opportunity to spend that illusive student loan!
Hepwright’s Vintage (34 Bedford Place)
Hepwright’s Vintage is Southampton’s number one vintage spot! Open from Tuesday to Saturday, 10am – 5pm, you have plenty of time to get your fix. With new stock hitting the shop daily, it’s always worth popping in to see what gems you can pick out. With it’s co owners both experienced in fashion, and vintage, you can be sure to find the highest quality, hand picked pieces.

Nosh (18 Hanover Buildings)
Southampton has a multitude of restaurants, cafes and coffee shops, with a wide range of cuisine, for every budget. For the student in you, Southampton has plenty of independent cafes like, Bella Italia’s neighbour, Nosh. The perfect stop off for something cheap, but tasty, for a lunchtime snack. With a chilled ambiance, Nosh is ideal for students and families alike; Jacket potato with cheese, to go!
Banana Wharf & Pitcher and Piano (Ocean Village)
If you’re looking for something a little more upmarket, situated in the heart of Ocean Village is Banana Wharf & Pitcher and Piano. Both restaurants are up market but delicious and Pitcher and Piano is sits above Ocean Village giving it spectacular views of the water. To get that added romance, visit at dusk. There’s plenty to keep you entertained, with 2 cinemas, including an independent art house theatre, boat trips and sailing facilities, not to mention some fantastic views over the world famous Solent cruising ground.

Houndwell & Hoglands Park
What Southampton is really known for is all it’s clean, green, open space. Nearing on 80 separate parks, there’s plenty of space to play sport, keep fit or have an al fresco lunch, weather permitting!
Uni link buses
With over 30,000 students living in the city, Southampton public transport is second to none! With taxi fairs rarely going over a fiver and £3 for an all day bus ticket, it’s never difficult to explore the local area (and there’s plenty to explore!)
I adore my city and can’t praise it highly enough! With all this, and more, going for Southampton, you’d be stupid not to pay us a visit but why listen to me, come and see for yourself.”
