Nail Tutorial – The Lesley

June 28th, 2011 — 5:58pm

Hellooo! It’s Emma here again, for nail tutorial numero deux.

This time I’m going to show you some nail art inspired by the detail on the back of the buff stuff limited edition Teal and Hot Pink Lesley dress.

  • The first stage was a gold base coat. I chose gold to sort of imitate a skin colour.
  • The second stage was to use a blue nail art pen to draw on two thick vertical stripes down the sides of each nail.
  • Next, use an orange nail art pen to draw the thin horizontal stripes over the bottom section of the nail.
  • Finally, finish off with a top coat. Now all you need is a Lesley dress to go with your Lesley nails!

Til next time.. x

Rocking Motel: Queen Michelle does Florals

June 24th, 2011 — 5:52pm

We are big believers in a good floral print in Motel HQ – well we did build a business on it. So we were very pleased to see one of our favourite bloggers, Queen Michelle of Kingdom of Style going in strong with the florals. She teamed our Wallflower Print shirt (which so happens to be on sale right now!) with a floral blazer and clashing print jeans. Queen Michelle we salute you!

Glastonbury Style

June 23rd, 2011 — 7:35pm

In case you’ve been hiding under a rock for the past week, this weekend is Glastonbury Festival, the yearly mecca of music, tents and mud. This year sees Motel favourite Beyonce headline, along with err…U2. We decided to post some of our favourite looks from Glastonbury’s gone by. Our top tips is packing some killer dresses or playsuits, statement sunglasses and some shorts (in case it gets sunny) – team with some durable wellies and a sense of humour (in case the rain continues).

Geri rocks Motel…

June 22nd, 2011 — 7:40pm

We have a bit of a soft spot for the Spice Girls at Motel HQ – more than one of us used to religiously do the girl power dance in front of the mirror, and they championed our fave footwear choice, the platform. So we were pretty amazed to see Ginger Spice aka Geri Halliwell splashed across the papers this morning wearing our Gina Dress in Mauve. She looks hot! Go girl power…

Snap Shot City Guide – Bristol!

June 15th, 2011 — 5:11pm

Here is another city guide from our Student Ambassador Katie studying at The University of Bristol! She has created a snapshop guide to the stylish city…

“A city built upon chocolate and cigarettes is now thriving with style.  Bristol is that rare place where every taste is catered for, and everything is in walking distance. There’s the eccentric boutiques of Clifton, Jack Wills on the Triangle, the vintage of Park Street (mixed in with upscale high stores such as Reiss and, of course, Motel itself) plus all the staple stores in Cabot Circus.  So with so much choice, where to go?

For vintage…

Heartfelt, 32 Alma Vale Road, Clifton.

Don’t be put off by the living room atmosphere, this is a gem of a boutique.  Vintage Chanel pumps have been spotted here and not only do they run a micro cafe in the shop but provide services from repainting furniture to hosting Children’s craft parties.

Oxfam Boutique, 77 Park Steet.

This is no ordinary charity shop!  Oxfam have lovingly put together a collection of vintage and stylish high street pieces, mixed in with beautiful fair trade jewellery.  Granted, it’s unlikely you’ll dig out any Ozzie Clarke but Ted Baker, Hobbs and Karen Millen crop up amongst the racks.  The design is beautiful and avoids any depressing shelves of VHS or tape decks.

Gimme Shelter!  The Lanes, 22 Nelson Street

Gimme Shelter is a boutique within a retro bowling alley: double the vintage!  Open Tuesday – Saturday all year round, the magic moment comes on the second Sunday of each month when over twenty vintage traders set up stall selling quality vintage and vinyl (plus some delicious pizza).

Eating and chilling…

Magic Roll, 3 Queens Row, Triangle South.

The best fast food in Clifton, Magic Roll’s exceptional wrap recipes have become somewhat of a cult around Bristol University.  Fresh, nutritious, fun.

Mr Wolf’s, 33 St. Stephens Street.

For such a small venue, this place has held some talented names.  Head down any night of the week for generously sized cocktails, cheap noodles and live music that can range from flamenco to reggae.

No. 1 Harbourside, 1 Canons Road.

This is the cafe-come-bar that encompasses everything the phrase ‘chilled-out’ could mean.  Friendly bar staff and a waterfront location, combined with rustic decor and the occasional jazz band on an  evening: perfect after a lecture-heavy day.

And Bristol’s kept secret…

Hyde & Co., 2 The Basement Berkeley Crescent.

One word: Speakeasy.  Knock on the door and see what you find.  Don’t tell them I sent you.”
