Here at Motel we want to give everyone the chance to work in fashion, but as every writer or PR guru knows, work experience is a must before you land yourself that amazing job! Our Student Ambassador scheme launched last September and gives students from around the country a chance to get their work published on our blog (whilst spreading the word of Motel around campus!) We’ve featured Rebecca to tell us more.

Name: Rebecca Cohen
Age: 20
University: University of Liverpool
Course: English
Do you blog?
I do! http://itscohen.blogspot.com/
How did you first hear about Motel?:
When I was in the basement of Topshop Oxford Circus; it was one of the first concessions I saw.
Why did you choose to apply to be a Student Ambassador?:
I’d have so many fun nights out in Motel clothes, and I thought this would be the perfect way to say thanks for the memories
What do you hope to do after graduating?
I’m still not 100% sure, but I know it’ll be within the media. Next editor-in chief of Vogue, perhaps?!
What is your favourite Motel piece in your wardrobe?:
My Gemma dress: easy to wear, but really looks cool with the cut out back.
How would you describe your personal style?
High waists, collars, and very old, ugly jumpers.

Do you blog?
I do have a blog but it’s one of those depressing and emotional relationship blogs with the most spelling errors in the world! http://jbankzfashionbiz.blogspot.com/
How did you first hear about Motel?
I was in Topshop and I was broke and I was trying to find a birthday dress and I happened to see a whole load of motel dress like there. That was the first time I fell in love. I would have bought the whole collection if I had money. But I ended up leaving with three!
Why did you choose to apply to be a Student Ambassador?
I applied because there’s nothing better than being a student ambassador for clothes you feel passionate about that you would atomically recognize from just from seeing it. I’m also a big fan.
What do you hope to do after graduating? (Career-wise or something else!):
I want to get into Fashion PR or be a child TV presenter.
What is your favourite Motel piece in your wardrobe?
The Blake dress in peach wallflower.
How would you describe your personal style?
I love statement clothes. Items that hide your bad bits and flatter you figure.

Pop icon Madonna was recently interviewed on ABC’s 20/20 wearing a royal blue dress with sleeve and collar details. We are loving all there is about details right now and think Madge hit this one out of the park.
We usually turn to killer accessories to turn our look up a notch or two, but now it can be achieved with details such as lace on a sleeve or on the shoulder. It’s a pleasant surprise to see such a cool accent on a sleek, sexy dress.
Take a look at our “dresses with details” and get a look similar to Madonna’s…

Shira, one of our gorgeous Student Ambassadors, loves Kate Hudson’s iconic boho style…

Who can forget Penny Lane’s dance to Cat Stevens amidst confetti on an empty stage? Leader of the “Band Aids” in Almost Famous, Penny epitomises seventies bohemian style. Floral peasant tops, tight blonde curls, and sheepskin coats exude the artistic and free-spirited nature of a dreamer. Channel her style with our flared denim Chantel Jeans and pair with a cropped or lace top; both the Edner Tee in Black Tattoo Lace and Bernice Velvet Bustier are perfect. And for those in Bristol, earn rock-star credentials by heading to the Motel store and picking up a brown suede miniskirt just like Penny’s.

Rest In Peace.

Thursday the 11th February was an incredibly sad day for the world of fashion, one of the most influential British designers of our time was found dead in his London home. Here at Motel we were shocked to hear this sad news and thought that these words by Tim Blanks say it best:
“The news that Alexander McQueen has killed himself is particularly devastating because it always felt to me like he’d be the last man standing. He was restless, but so pragmatic with it I assumed he had what it took to endure the extreme situations he placed himself in. He was also an arch romantic with a pessimistic streak. It produced some of the most beautiful, shocking images in the history of fashion, but it’s a state of mind that can lead to endless disappointments. The death of McQueen’s mother last week would have validated his pessimism. It would undoubtedly have taken away his most vital support. It’s awful to imagine him trying—and failing—to cope, and one can only hope that, if he was looking for peace, he found it. For everyone left behind, there will eventually be consolation, however scant right now, in a body of work whose power will never die.”

Check out the gossip from the past week here! Kalimocho have been blogging about our new spring dresses! Don’t miss out on these essential looks.
Presenter Lucie Cave was looking hot at the ITV awards in the Betsy dress, we have now sold out of this beauty due to popular demand but check it out in the chain flower print
heres what she had to say:
Lucie Cave, Executive Editor of Heat magazine writes…
When I found out I was co-hosting the ITV2 ‘Backstage at the National Television Awards’ I was, quite frankly, in a right tizz about what to wear (satin gowns and cocktail dresses aren’t my thing and make me look like a fancy toilet roll holder). I’m a huge fan of Motel anyway, the dresses always look effortlessly cool without looking like you’re trying, so the Motel Betsy Egyptian print dress was perfect for this occasion. I teamed it with some lipstick print opaque tights, black ankle boots and a vintage gold chain necklace and felt glam yet comfortable – which was important as I didn’t need to be worrying about whether my dress was too tight aswell as remember my lines. James Corden gave me compliments aplenty – which is always nice, and I’ve worn it since to an engagement party and the pub – so its very versatile!
Host of MTV’s show MTV Home Palina, was spotted wearing a cute motel mini skirt, sadly we have now sold out but get the look with the sphinx jacket!
Bliss mag have featured our ever so popular galactic roll sleeve tee in a makeover shoot! Perfect to add colour to any look and check out dolly magazine from Australia, they are loving the motel sabine dress, buy it now to get the Pixie Lott look!
Musician Beth Jeans Horton has been spotted in a stylish motel stripe print we have now sold out of this statement jacket but check out the Alice dress…

Here at the Motel office, we were recently visited by Jenny who is designer and owner of Nylon Sky and when she showed us her new collection of necklaces ‘Rough: Luxe’ we instantly fell in love!
We decided that we would get some of these wonderful treats for our flagship store in Bristol and we were all really excited when Jenny dropped them off yesterday!
We got the necklaces in four different designs, each coming in two colourways. Rough: Luxe is a geometric / futuristic fusion of laser cut acrylic and wood. We think they are of similar style to designer Holly Fulton! Some necklaces come on a black or silver chain and some are bound by leather and attached to a black rope style cord and range from £15 – £24 !
Either way, we are loving all of Jenny’s creations and we think you will too! Take a peak and and watch this space!!

How did you first hear about Motel?
My first Motel memory occurred when I was hunting for a dress to wear for yet another night on the town. Having traipsed around Glasgow for hours, my unsuccessful shopping trip took a turn for the better when I spotted Motel’s graphic prints, bright colours and bodycon shapes in the basement of Topshop. It was love at first sight!
Why did you choose to apply to be a Student Ambassador?
The Student Ambassador role seemed like a fun way to gain more experience in the fast-paced worlds of fashion and media, while spreading the word about this truly fabulous British brand to my fellow students.
What do you hope to do after graduating?
After graduation I intend to become a fashion journalist, spending my days writing from one of the style capitals of the world, and adoring every minute of it.
What is your favourite Motel piece in your wardrobe?
It may seem basic but I couldn’t live without my black Lana cropped bodice! The detailing is super hot and it looks amazing with everything from high waisted shorts to pencil skirts. A must-have for every girl’s wardrobe.
How would you describe your personal style?
Insanely varied. One day I’m a candy coated girlie girl, the next an indie Cindy and by Wednesday I’m a vintage vixen! You’ve got to keep life interesting after all!

One of our gorgeous student ambassador’s Rebecca tells us her latest movie style crush:

Sitting here listening to the Beatles (my favourite album is Please Please Me), I can’t help but dream of being a teenager in the sixties. I’m sure many of you have watched “An Education”, the film based on Lynn Barber’s memoirs, of a girl who really did live out that dream. On paper, at least. The main character Jenny is played by Carey Mulligan, whose style I’ve always admired. Fitting into the sixties era, Jenny wears loads of cute dresses and kitten heels – totally what has been seen on the catwalk for SS12. Motel’s Heidi dress in Winter Bloom is perfect for a modern spin on Jenny’s floral dresses. Pair it with some Pamela Mann ankle socks, and sweet black Mary Jane heels, and you’ll be ready to Twist and Shout with the best of the Teddy Boys.
